2018’s incredible Sonic Mania Plus is now available on mobile for Netflix subscribers to download and enjoy.

Netflix announced the arrival of Sonic Mania Plus with a blog post on its website. Having taken Sonic Mania Plus for a whirl this morning on my Google Pixel 6A, I’m pleased to report that the transition to mobile appears seamless, with the speedy hedgehog’s greatest 2D adventure running smoothly.

Sonic Mania Plus is one of five titles arriving on Netflix this month, with Jonathan Blow’s celebrated puzzle platformer Braid, Anniversary Edition, Paper Trail, Katana Zero, and Netflix Stories: Virgin River all joining the service over the coming weeks.

The streaming giant has seen other high-profile games join its growing library of titles since first entering the gaming space back in November 2021. Sonic Mania Plus now joins other big hitters on Netflix such as Supergiant Games’ fantastic rogue-like dungeon crawler Hades, and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Sonic Mania Plus, even crowning it the best mainline Sonic game of all time in my extensive retrospective of the series.

Based on the classic Mega Drive games and Sonic’s earliest adventures on the platform, Sonic Mania Plus sees Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Ray, and Mighty embark on a fast-paced romp through reimagined levels from Sonic’s past and speed through fantastically designed new zones as they attempt to defeat Dr. Robotnik and a group of new enemies, The Hard Boiled Heavies.

Sonic Mania originally launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows back in 2017 as a celebration of Sonic’s 25th anniversary, with the 2018 ‘Plus’ version adding a host of features, including new playable characters and Encore mode, which remixed the levels and allowed for character switching during each zone.

Sonic’s popularity continues to grow outside of games too, with two successful movies, a spin-off TV show starring Knuckles, and a third outing featuring Keanu Reeves on the way this December.
