The Official Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Twitter account has revealed Sonic 3’s Shadow The Hedgehog’s lower half and incredibly detailed shoes and fans are understandably going wild.
Shadow’s clenched fists suggest he means business although his motives are up in the air at the time of writing.
The clapper board that Shadow is posing next to in the teaser features a blue, black and red motif to represent Sonic and Shadow and there’s even a subtle nod to Sonic Adventure 2. The logo for Sonic 3 clearly pays homage to the logo of Sonic Adventure 2, the game where Shadow made his debut.
Despite being teased during the mid-credits of Sonic 2, this sneak peek gives audiences the first look at Sonic 3’s Shadow The Hedgehog since its 2020 prequel.
Not much is known about the plot of the movie just yet but key cast members including Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski are all set to reprise their roles.
A major unknown element for Sonic 3 is whether Jim Carrey will be returning as Doctor Robotnik for the threequel after he made comments suggesting that he was ‘probably’ retiring after the release of Sonic 2.
That Sonic 2 Debut
The new tease may be making fans wait for to see Sonic 3’s Shadow The Hedgehog even harder but we’ve already had a decent glimpse at Sonic’s brooding rival in the previous movie.
At the end of Sonic 2, one of the officers charged with clearing up Robotnik’s mess states that in addition to the evil Doctor going missing, they had discovered hidden files dating back over fifty years. The files included co-ordinates to a secret research facility and as the dialogue continues we see Shadow emerge in a giant tube, just as Tom Butler’s Commander Walter reveals the existence of ‘Project Shadow’.
In the interim, fans itching for more of Sonic 3’s Shadow The Hedgehog might be placated by the upcoming Paramount Plus TV series starring Idris Elba’s Knuckles. To clarify, that’s about the character, Knuckles, and not the joints on the back of Mr. Elba’s hands.
It’s been a busy year for the Blue Blur with multiple game releases including Sonic Superstars and Sonic Dream Team in addition to new LEGO sets, board games and even a ‘Sonic & Chill’ album.
Sonic 3’s Shadow The Hedgehog is scheduled to hit cinemas on the 20th December 2024, along with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and the rest of the gang that we know and love.
