Vblank Entertainment is set to release their 2019 retro title Shakedown: Hawaii as a physical edition for the Nintendo 3DS later this year.
Yes, this is a brand new Nintendo 3DS cartridge that you can purchase in 2023. How incredible is that?
The last major release for the 3DS would be Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn back in 2019. And that was just a port from the 2010 Wii title.
The recent announcement that Nintendo will discontinue online services for both the Wii U and the 3DS seemed to be the final nail in the 3DS coffin.
We assumed that the existing best Nintendo 3DS games were all we were going to see again for the console. Until today, of course.
So this exciting new 3DS release comes as a welcome surprise. Let’s all take a look…
Shakedown: Hawaii
Shakedown: Hawaii is a retro inspired title, not unlike the original top-down style early Grand Theft Auto releases. It features a ton of action, beautiful pixel art, and an over the top, super fun story well worth experiencing.
The original release for Shakedown: Hawaii was for PC back in 2019, and has seen subsequent releases on the Nintendo Wii, Wii U, Playstation 3/4/5, and now on the Nintendo 3DS.
This marks the first time that this retro inspired title will be released on a physical medium for original retro hardware. If you consider the 3DS truly retro, which we do.
Perhaps one of the coolest bits about this unique physical edition are all of the bonus items included.
Not only do you get the incredible game on a 3DS game card, but you also get the soundtrack on a CD, and a really cool vinyl toy of the character “The CEO”.
The toy alone would be an incredible collector’s item to offer the fans of this game. But for the title to release on the 3DS is a bonus we are super excited for.
Vblank has noted that their 3DS game is a region locked title which will only play on a North American Nintendo 3DS device. So keep that in mind when purchasing!
Purchasing Information
The Shakedown: Hawaii physical editions will be available for purchase on Monday, November 6th.
The pricing is $29.99 USD for the Standard Edition and $49.99 USD for the Collector’s Edition (plus shipping). A small premium to pay to get those unique bonuses.
They are limiting their print run to 3,000 Standard Edition and 3,000 Collector’s Edition copies. Which, honestly, sounds like plenty. But if you’re a massive fan of the game, best to make sure you get your order in.
