With today being Dreamcast’s 25th birthday (North American Release) there has been a wide range of social birthday messages and announcements, but a unique product that we did not see coming was Dreamcast trading cards… you read that correctly… trading cards!
I am a huge trading card collector, so this announcement was music to my ears and I quickly snagged a booster box to explore, so you’ll see a hands on here at Retro Dodo when they release in March 2025.
SEGA teamed up with Limited Run Games to release a wide range of products to commemorate one of the best games consoles that ever released. In traditional SEGA merchandise, there’s plenty to choose from:
- Dreamcast T-Shirt
- Dreamcast Hoodie
- Dreamcast Skte Deck
- Dreamcast Hat
- Dreamcast Coins
- Dreamcast Keychain
- Dreamcast Trading Cards Booster Box
- Dreamcast Trading Cards Hobby Box
- Dreamcast Trading Card Binder
- Dreamcast Trading Card Storage Box
- Dreamcast Trading Card Sleeves
- Dreamcast Pin
The most interesting of the bunch is the range of trading cards that they are releasing. There’s over 200 unique cards to collect, featuring characters, box art, logos and more, with ultra rare insert cards and serialised cards. The booster packs come in five unique designs to collect, featuring five different colour variants of the VMU.
The booster box costs $124.99 and is designed to look like the Dreamcast too featuring 24 packs in total, with each pack containt 5 cards, making a total of 120 cards in each box, still not enough to collect all 200, but it’s a good start. The collectors binder can hold all 200 cards, making it a good addition for those wanting to complete the whole set.
The Hobby Box costs $24.99 and contains 4 packs of trading cards. Pre-orders close on the 13th October and shipping is due in March.
It’s a great collection for those who love collecting trading cards, and for those that want to relive the good old days by phyiscally collecting the awesome artwork. I am interested in seeing all 200 designs, alongside the ultra rare serialised cards.
