It’s not often that games are written from the ground up with first the NES in mind and then in HD for modern consoles, but that’s exactly what’s happened with Rugrats Adventures in Gameland. Everyone’s favourite babies are back with two modes for both 8-bit play and glorious HD graphics. And while the difference is stark, it’s so nice to see a modern game championing the 2D side-scrolling titles of the past
I’ve purposely put these two pictures next to each other so you can see how the hand-drawn art in each mode differs, both giving amazing in their own right and giving older gamers a chance to relive the golden age of gaming and younger players to finally see what games were like ‘back in the old days’. I imagine they’ll be pressing that 8-bit mode only by accident, but hey, old-timers like the Dodo team will be all over it!
The Limited Run Games retail edition of Rugrats: Adventures In Gameland is dropping in August 2024 on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, and you can find out more about it in the news article I wrote back in March!
