Sony’s CEO Just Received A Unique PS1-style PS5 And The Internet Is In Awe

Unique PS1 given to Jim Ryan

We’ve covered lots of limited edition consoles here at Retro Dodo over the years, but this PS1-style PS5 that outgoing Sony CEO just received as a present from the firm could be one of the greatest.

The console that kicked off Sony’s foray into the gaming world fused with their newest and most powerful machine to date – a union of old and new in perfect harmony.

Ok, so maybe it’s not just the internet that is in awe of this thing – we’d sell a lung to get our hands on one!

Jim Ryan has been CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment for 30 years, and he’s seen some amazing things happen at the company.

And what a gift to be given to say thank you for all of that hard work!

PS Past Meets PS Future

Spotted by Games Radar and as shown on X by InstallBase, the console has been designed to look like the iconic machine that we first played Spyro the Dragon back on all those years ago.

Just check out that controller with the original logo, mirrored again on the front face of the console.

There’s even an original PS1 controller port stuck into the side of the PS5.

Is that some wizardry where a USB is hidden within an old controller port perhaps? All we know is that it looks wicked, and if Sony were to ever make more of these, we’d be the first to have our names down for one!

Jim, thanks for all your hard work, and we hope that you enjoy using your new unique PS1-style PS5!

I’d also like to be famous enough to have my face on a biscuit – that’s a real mark that you’ve made it in business!

Which of the best PS1 games would you play on this thing if you could get your hands on one?
