I honestly don’t think I’ve spent this much time on the App Store in years, but with every day comes a new emulator for me to download and play epic Retro Games on my iPhone, and I’m certainly not complaining. So far this week we’ve had Gamma drop into our lives, bringing PS1 titles to our palms, and now one of our favourite emulators PPSSPP has finally been approved for the iPhone App Store and is available now!

I wrote back in April that PPSSPP creator Henrik Rydgard was planning to bring the emulator to the App Store, and at the time of writing that was only a month ago. Things seem to have moved very quickly since then, ending an almost 12-year wait for Apple users to get the PPSSPP iPhone emulator on their phones.

This means that gamers can now play epic PSP titles on the go from their iPhones, with users playing games like God of War, Burnout: Legends, and Tekken 6 in between answering work emails and arranging a time for the plumber to come around.

There will be some limitations according to the official PPSSPP website such as Vulkan support through MoltenVK not being enabled on launch along with Magic Keyboard and the JIT recompiler not being supported. Retro Achievements are temporarily disabled too, but these are all things that Rydgard is going to work on over the coming months, with the exception of the JIT Compiler function as Apple’s rules don’t allow it, though that might change as time goes on.

The app is available to download from the App Store now, so check it out and get gaming!
