The Pokémon Company have established a mysterious new subsidiary, known simply as ‘Pokémon Works’.
A trademark for the new business entity appeared in Japan last week and spotted by Serebii.net’s Joe Merrick who posted their findings on Twitter.
Merrick revealed that the new company was registered last week on the 4th March 2024 and will operate from the same office as Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl developer ILCA.
ILCA, or ‘I Love Computer Art’ to give the company its full moniker, began in 2010 and started life as a company producing computer generated graphics for movies and TV shows before pivoting towards game development.
The developers at ILCA aren’t exclusive with Nintendo having worked with Square-Enix on NieR Re[in]carnation, Sega Bandai Namco on 404 Game Re:Set and Bandai Namco on One Piece Odyssey and the upcoming Sand Land game. The latter will feature an epic adventure from the recently departed Dragon Ball Creator, Akira Toriyama.
Pokémon Works establishment in the same building as ILCA suggests some crossover on the Pokémon series although The Pokémon Company have yet to confirm this.
Permitted Works
Pokémon fans have already started to speculate on social media, theorising that the new company could be a working on a new spin-off Pokémon title.
The shared workspace with ILCA, themselves a former support studio has lead other to propose that Pokémon Works could be a new support studio, created to assist development of the recently announced Pokémon Legends Z-A.
The latest title in the long-running Pokémon series debuted during the recent Pokémon Presents livestream which also saw the announcement of a new Pokémon The Card Game Pocket app.
Until The Pokémon Company officially reveals the nature of Pokémon Works, its existence remains a mystery but we’ll hopefully learn the truth behind this new subsidiary soon.
