I’ve been collecting up my pack points while opening booster packs for a while now. Every time you open a Booster Pack you get 5 pack points, and I’ve opened a heck of a lot of packs so far! There hasn’t been many cards I’ve really wanted other than Venusaur EX, and I’ll get hold of it eventually, so I’ve been storing up my pack points to get hold of the new EX cards in upcoming sets.
When I saw Mew EX and Aerodactyl EX in the new set, I rubbed my hands together like Ebeneezer Scrooge standing over a pile of money – all that saving had definitely paid off. Well, it turns out I was very wrong. While hourglasses and Pokégold can still be used on the new Booster Packs, pack points are linked to the Booster Pack series you’ve earned them through.
The Pokémon TCG Pocket website now states that ‘Opening booster packs of a given expansion earns you pack points for that expansion. Those points can be exchanged only for cards that appear in that expansion.’
Genetic Apex is A1 and Mystic Island is set to have the code A1a, meaning the pack points won’t work. I guess it makes sense to level the playing field so crafty players (like me) can’t just nip in and exchange points for all the good cards. Having said that, some gamers will buy a tonne of Pokégold and open multiple packs at once with the hope of pulling Mew, but when it comes to pack points, you’ll simply have to use them to complete your existing set. Looks like I’m getting that Venusaur EX after all!
Mystic Island drops tomorrow (December 17th), so brush up on the new cards and get ready for some moves that EX deck users will be getting very worried about!
