One of my favourite parts of this job is getting to check out different Pokémon ROM hacks, and luckily for me, we're getting more and more every day. I've been checking out the newest updates to 'Fallout: Evolution' by Abelardthebard after a post was shared on X by Reticent, and the clip is looking amazing.

This ROM hack used to be called Nukamon, though I can see why it isn't anymore. Fallout: Evolution sounds a lot more acceptable. And yes, it's based on Pokémon Emerald, which you probably would have guessed already considering it's one of the most turned-to titles in the series when it comes to ROM hacking. And the new storyline sounds pretty exciting, with locations like Vault 67 paying homage to the wider Fallout fan-fiction universe.

Instead of simply playing as a Pokémon trainer wanting to become the champion, you'll play as a vault dweller who, according to the Reddit page for the game, will have to leave the safety of their vault and head out into the wasteland of the Pokémon world. Will the Pokémon have mutations? What will it look like out there?

Abelardthebard is clearly a super fan for both series, embracing the style of Fallout as well as the solid cornerstones of the Pokémon franchise. Writing on Reddit, they say that they 'wanted to embrace Fallout style as much as possible and not JUST do a reskin.'

Abelardthebard has recently set up a Discord server for the new game and is actively looking for contributions in all areas, including collaborating artists for help in creating sprites, making music, and devs with experience in making battle mechanics. They also just want to hear about the kinds of things you'd like to see in a Fallout-Pokémon crossover game, making this a project that has a truly fan-founded feel about it!
What do you think about this project? What would you like to see as part of the game? Let us know in the comments below, and hopefully Abelardthebard will see what you've put too!
