I like ROM hack projects that are really ambitious; it's one of the reasons I love Pokémon Unbound because it brings in so much more than the usual Gen 3 games do. Don't get me wrong, I love Pokémon Emerald and Fire Red, once you've read about Pokémon EVERGREEN, you might be putting them to one side and getting ready for a brand new adventure.

The mind behind the project is a dev called Gongas, who has been working tirelessly on getting this hack ready for its release this coming January. The workload has apparently been incredibly demanding, but when you consider that there are upwards of 250 brand new fights to encounter along with a brand new custom story and every map of Kanto being redone to give the region a brand new feel, you can kind of see why!
Pokémon EVERGREEN will release on the 10th of JANUARY, 2027!🟢🟣

This project is incredibly ambitious and has been VERY demanding on my end for the past couple of months, so I hope it's worth the wait!

As you can see in the video posted on X, this is very much a Gen 3 ROM hack, but for many of us, that's where the sweet spot is in the Pokémon series. Which is kind of mad that we're getting up to Gen 10 and we're still all making games that fit into the Gen 3 aesthetic.
The new version Kanto looks very interesting, with snowy worlds, desert areas, and a brand new storyline that looks way more complicated than the original Pokémon Red/Blue adventure. There are over 100 new custom events to take part in too - Gongas has put a shift in with this one!

There are over 386 Pokémon to catch in this game as well as some regional variants, and the difficulty has been ramped up massively. By the sounds of it, it's going to be as difficult as Unbound. I'm excited to see how the storyline of EVERGREEN compares, and whether the new explorable regions will have hints of the original Kanto in them for the hardcore fans.
As you might have gathered from how much work Gongas has put into this, the learnsets have all been custom-made too, and there there are lots of quality of life features that make the game flow better. Gongas, thank you for removing the tutorial - we all know how to play Pokémon games now, so we want to just start playing.
The game is releasing on January 10th; head to Gongas' X page to follow and get the latest updates!
