You may have seen us talk about Cheatcode in the past; they're a British-based online retro gaming store, and if you're keen-eyed, you've likely seen me wearing their merchandise over on our YouTube channel. I have a total of four of their Pokémon t-shirts from previous sets, such as Base set, and Jungle set.
Well, I was expecting a Fossil set launch to come next, and although it's being worked on, Base Set 2 t-shirts have now been revealed by Cheatcode, a set I was very familiar with when I was a kid; heck, I still have many of my BS2 cards in my binder.
In classic Cheatcode fashion these t-shirts come incredibly well packaged in nostalgic oversized booster packs, allowing you to experience the dopamine hit of your childhood while seeing your brand new t-shirt for the very first time. This set comes in four different choices, including Mewtwo, Raichu, Pidgeot and Gyarados, with 5 sizes to choose from S - XXL.
The packaging has subtle nods to Nintendo and Wizards of the Coast without stepping too close to alarming Nintendo's lawyers. The Pokémon themselves have been designed by Gloomygonza, sticking to their exaggerated 3D render style that feels almost Nintendo 64-like thanks to the angled look. The packaging design is so good that I still have my oversized booster packs on display, and I was close to not opening them at all, but that's my inner collector coming out.
The t-shirts themselves are also oversized, and are 280gsm thick, which, for those that don't know, is pretty thick, allowing you to wear them in the summer and in the winter. The thickness for me is perfect. It hides my love handles and winter stiff nipples, no joke.
They're printed using a direct-to-garment digital process that basically sprays water-based ink onto the t-shirts in a very efficient and high-quality way. There's even a small Base Set 2 logo on the front, too. You may have noticed that the feature image shows a Red Gyarados, and not a blue one, and that's because there are only 5 available Red Gyarados t-shirts being made, one for each size, and a random customer will win one when purchasing the Gyarados t-shirt. This will not replace your order; instead, you'll get an additional pack with the 1 of 1 rare Red Gyarados. As if you're shiny hunting. How sick!?
These t-shirts will retail for around £44.99, ship worldwide and go up for pre-order on the 31st of July for only four days. So yes, they're incredibly limited.
