An open-world RPG set in the coastal metropolis of Sapphire Valley and made to look like a Game Boy Color game, complete with mini-games and a wholesome storyline about growing up? Yes, you've travelled back to the 90s, and yes, it's gonna be awesome.
Petal Runner is a coming-of-age adventure that sees players working as a courier travelling a solar punk world on your bike. With a caption of 'two besties in a pixel-powered slice of life story', you just know it's going to be incredibly nostalgic and almost cosy, and the soundtrack that goes with it feels like you're relaxing in a cafe in Kanto. Honestly, I've watched a couple of seconds of this clip, and I'm already reaching for my wallet.
It comes to us from Nano Park Studios and is available to wishlist on Steam now. There's no information as to whether it will actually come to us as a Game Boy Game yet in the same way that Black Tower Enigma or the ModRetro releases have done, but watch this space! This is the kind of thing that I would love to have on actual hardware and to kick back on my sofa playing. I'm a big fan of the twilight-sunset kind of colour scheme too. It all feels a little like LA Sunset Boulevard in a dystopian world, just with a cat as an integral character.
Make sure you head on over to Nano Park Studios' Instagram and show them some love!
