3D Platformer Penny’s Big Breakaway has shadow dropped onto during today’s Nintendo Partner Direct presentation.
The new title from developers Evening Star and publisher Private Division sees the titular Penny using her yo-yo, named Yo-Yo to evade Eddy the Emperor’s penguin army in a vibrant 3D world.
After Penny’s Big Breakaway was shadow dropped earlier today, players can now jump into shoes of Penny, a street-performer on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Penny’s Big Break is now available on those platforms for a very reasonable £24.99. We’ll be jumping into Penny’s Big Breakaway as soon as we finish covering all of the other great retro announcements from today’s Nintendo Partner Direct, including a new entry in the Monkey Ball series, several Rare games launching into Nintendo Switch Online and a Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection.
For a relatively high profile game like Penny’s Big Breakaway to be shadow dropped onto digital store fronts isn’t completely unheard of. Microsoft pulled a similar trick last year with the equally colourful and fun Hi-Fi Rush.
Yo-Yo Let’s Go-Go!
While seeing any game shadow dropped is always a pleasant surprise for gamers, Penny’s Big Breakaway carries a weight of expectation with its release.
Development on the freshly released titled is helmed by some of the minds behind the fantastic Sonic Mania, including Creative Director, Christian Whitehead.
In an interview with Nintendo Life, Whitehead described the game as having “non-photorealistic visuals with heavy art styles and bold colours”. He later spoke about how Penny’s yo-yo is a “chaotic entity” that has an “appetite for getting you into trouble”.
Penny’s Big Breakaway has been on my radar ever since it was first revealed and Whitehead’s words fill me with anticipation to finally get my hands on this latest 3D platformer.
