Nothing Adds Retro Snake Game To Their Smartphone’s Widgets

Premium smartphone maker Nothing has a method of designing their products in such a way that even the most tech-savy folk can’t resist but drool at them. That’s not only thanks to the physical structure of their products but also due to the way their Nothing OS is designed.

The Nothing company are continuously support of their community too, so much so that they bring to life some of their communities creations on a regular basis, and one that caught our attention was the fact that you can now play Snake on the home screen of your Nothing smartphone.

This is all thanks to their community member Rahul Janardhanan who created his own widget concepts, and it swiftly gained the attention of Nothing and their community, so much so that Nothing gave him the chance to help their design team bring this retro game to life for Nothing users.

I’ll be honest, it has been a long while since I played the original snake game, I remember it vividly when I had a Nokia 3310 as a young teenager, so playing it and seeing it on modern hardware gave me an overwhelming sense of nostalgia.

Here I am, older and balder at 32, playing Snake on a Nothing 2a Plus smartphone, on a widget that isn’t too dissimilar in size when compared to the Nokia 3310’s screen. What a time to be alive.

The widget is super simple, just like the original game, and can be controlled using swipe gestures on the widget. Swipe left to go left, right to go right, and double tap to pause. The aim of the is to eat the red dots, each dot is a point, and the game will end when and if you hit/eat yourself.

It’s a highly addictive game, one that teases you with the thought that you can do better next time and I like how accessible the game is because it’s located on your home screen. It’s a great widget and a great game to lose 10/15 minutes, perfect for a train journey or waiting for your girlfriend to decide what she wants for dinner tonight.

I hope this is the beginning of Nothing bringing retro games to their Nothing OS widgets, I may be biased but I would love to see a Tamagotchi like widget that forces me to keep this thing alive through the day, feeding it, cleaning up its poop and evolving it. It’s not like I already have a child in my life, but a little cyber friend on my home screen would be welcome with open arms. Heck, why not open up trades/battles with other Nothing users?

Now I’m getting ahead of myself, but it’s something Apple wouldn’t do and I’m certain Nothing community members would be eager to work on it.

This custom Snake widget is now available exclusively for Nothing smartphones and can be downloaded on Nothing’s community website.
