Nintendo Recreates Classic Paul Rudd SNES Advert For Nintendo Switch 2

Paul Rudd in 1991 and 2025

'Now you're playing with power.. SUPER POWER'. While Nintendo had some great adverts with the likes of Rik Mayall back in the day, their electric advert for the SNES back in 1991 remains one of the most impressive. Way before Paul Rudd took up the reins as Ant-Man, he appeared holding a SNES advertising The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Pilotwings. Sim City, and many more games that, for the time, were absolutely revolutionary. And if you didn't get that from the video, the lightening and wind should have given it away.

Now, Nintendo have got Paul back dressed in the same clothes to recreate the advert for the Nintendo Switch 2. I called this a while ago in a news article I wrote on the Nintendo Switch 2, which is making me wonder whether I should rebrand myself as a retro gaming psychic, but that's another conversation for another time. Here's the original advert below if you never watched it back in the day.

It's been 34 years since Rudd took on the role. He didn't have any speaking parts back then, resorting to looking 'windswept and interesting' instead. They've got his outfit nailed down perfectly in line with the previous advert, though instead of being in a drive-thru cinema, he's in a living room, docking a Nintendo Switch and trying out new games and the Game Chat function. 'Now you're playing with power,' has given way to 'Now you're playing together,' further pushing Nintendo's idea of togetherness in gaming and creating those old couch co-op feels.

Rudd is joined by fellow stars Joe Lo Truglio and Jordan Carlos and a younger gamer who refers to Rudd as 'Uncle Paul'. The level of continuity that Nintendo has shown here is amazing and shows how much they value their past and both the consoles and customers who have helped them to get to this point. It won't be long till we're all playing Mario Kart World together and enjoying all the same gameplay that Rudd shows in the video; let us know if you've got a pre-order sorted in the comments below!
