New Sonic LEGO Sets Feature Some Nostalgic Classics For Series Fans

A trio of new Sonic LEGO sets have been revealed by a German retailer with several deep cuts for fans of classic Sonic.

Images for the three new sets come from JB Spielwaren, who previously revealed new Super Mario LEGO products with paper instructions back in November. The new Sonic LEGO sets are due to arrive on the 31st of August 2024, with prices, number of bricks, and product numbers listed below.

The new sets are just the latest gaming-inspired products from LEGO, following the reveal of two new Animal Crossing sets earlier this week.

We’ve covered lots of LEGO Sonic news on Retro Dodo before (certainly since I started working here anyway) but the majority of recent Sonic-flavoured sets have delivered products only tangentially related to the Sonic games. That approach appears to have shifted with these latest pieces, with nods to Sonic’s gaming legacy aplenty.

The Egg Drillster in LEGO form and as it appears in Sonic 2

The most obvious retro reference comes in the new ‘Super Sonic Vs Egg Drillster’ set, with Dr. Robotnik piloting a version of the Egg Drillster that appeared as the first boss of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 in 1992. As the title suggests, the set includes a brand new minifigure in the form of the long-awaited Super Sonic.

Eagle-eyed fans will also spot a photo frame on what looks like Robotnik’s workbench. The photograph on display is of Shadow the Hedgehog and Maria Robotnik, Robotnik’s cousin who made her first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast.

EggRobo Returns

Meanwhile, the Knuckles and the Master Emerald Shrine set sees the Knuckles (or Knuckolas Cage to those that have watched the Knuckles TV show) and Amy working together to attack an EggRobo from Sonic & Knuckles‘ Sky Sanctuary Zone.

The final set sees Tails piloting the Sea Fox II, a reference to Tails’ nuclear-powered boat Sonic The Hedgehog Triple Trouble. A seaside scene with Sonic’s favourite chili dog completes the set.
