Do you ever wish that you could capture the essence of games like Road Rash and Mach Rider for a game on the Game Boy Color? Sure, Supercross Freestyle was a neat game, but if you want challenging 3D racing action that takes you straight back to crunching your controller in the early 90s, then the new game from Shane McCafferty and the team at Rocketship Park 'Hero GP' will be right up your street.
Available to download for the GBC and the Analogue Pocket, you can play Hero GP on everything from your iPhone using Delta to your favourite handheld emulator, and it's an awesome racing game that keeps you hooked from the get go. It's super fast-paced too; imagine if you took Captain Falcon and stuck him on a motorbike - that's the general vibe I'm getting while playing.

Graphics wise, Shane and his team have certainly worked some magic on the courses. I mentioned 1992's Road Rash because it's one of the games I played the most as a kid and I really get that vibe from Hero GP - it feels like a Sega game that I'm playing through openFPGA, but I can definitely see the little .gbc file type on my download! Hero GP is even more impressive when you consider that Motorcross Maniacs on the GBC was side-scrolling and hard to make out what was going on, whereas everything on this game is clear and easy to keep tabs on... especially how many people are ahead of me!

The premise is incredibly simple; get across the line first, win the race, and open up a new track in a different territory. There are 8 more areas to unlock as you can see form the picture above, though you'll have just as much fun picking it up and playing a couple of rounds on the same course casually as you will doing everything in your power to become the greatest driver of all time.
