As you all know, I spend my days living in the past. Graphics that are too rounded feel weird to me; give me low-poly characters and some catchy music and I feel way more at home. Barcelona-based store Mugico clearly feel the same way as me, creating incredibly detailed low-poly figures of gaming greats from the N64, PS1, PS2 and more.

Mugico's owner Xavi clearly has a love of retro gaming that matches my own. Just look at the attention to detail on this figurine of Bowser. Hand painted and standing at 30cm tall, it's a perfect addition to any game room and a must-have for any Mario fan out there (which really should be everyone reading this article).

What gets me is the colours on these figurines - they're perfectly recreated and faithful replicas of the original designs to the point where they look like they've jumped straight out of your CRT and onto your table.

Each figurine is highly limited to 1 of 1, making them serious collectors pieces. Check out how cute this Yoshi is, taking me right back to the days of playing SM64 on my parents bulky CRT in our first house.

Xavi manages to capture true poignant moments within our favourite games too. I would argue that this recreation of Ada's death scene is just as powerful as any painting that you might walk past in a gallery. It comes with an optional wooden base, or you can place it in any setting of your choosing, like your own zombie-ridden street set if you're super creative.

Gruntilda has to be one of my personal favourites; to get the angles on those weird eyes and her pointy chin in figurine form shows some real talent. Xavi's prices reflect the work that goes into these figures, with prices starting from £40 for small weapons and accessories going all the way up to £995 for 1/5 real scale size figures that weigh up to 2kg!
Xavi ships his items all over the world, so no matter where you're reading this from, you can have some bespoke low-poly magic in your game room or office. Head to Mugico's Etsy page for more info!
