Well, today is the day that we have permission to lift the lid on ModRetro's M64 release date, retail pricing, and the handful of launch title games that it's going to come with. It feels like a long time coming, seeing as we made our first hands-on video and article over 3 months ago.
Not only has ModRetro revealed this information, but they've also announced what features will come at launch and after launch, too. So, ModRetro really have nothing else to hide, which is great, because the wait is minimal too! You can find all of the M64's launch and post-launch features here too.
ModRetro M64 Release Date

The official release date of the ModRetro M64 has been scheduled for July 28th 2026, and will be available on ModRetro's official website to purchase on that date too.
Meaning you only have to wait a couple of months before getting your hands on it. I think this is a respectable time frame. I was starting to worry that this would get pushed back to later in the year, but as ModRetro has made us aware, they're working very hard to get this into people's hands ASAP.
The official ModRetro Trident controller will also launch on July 28th, alongside the console launch, which is great to see, as I know personally that the ModRetro team were unsure whether or not they could get the controller finished in time for the console launch.
The launch games for the M64 will also be released on the 28th July, allowing you to bundle up all of the products you want in one go. Perfecto!
ModRetro M64 Official Pricing

The retail pricing of the M64 will be $229, but early birds will have the opportunity to get it for $199. As of now, there's no understanding of how long this early bird promotion will last.
The official ModRetro Trident controller will cost $89.99, with no early bird pricing that I am aware of.
ModRetro M64 Launch Titles

ModRetro are known for the hardware, but they're also making some waves in the software space, thanks to their array of first-party GAME BOY games that have been released alongside the popular ModRetro Chromatic. The launch titles for the M64 will be:
- Xeno Crisis
- Buck Bumle
- Extreme-G Turbo Fusion
- Xibalba 64

A solid first few games for sure, and great to see the return of Buck Bumble from Argonaut games. This isn't Argonaut and ModRetro's first partnership, as they've worked together to bring Rayman and Croc 2 back to GAME BOY in a recent remake, but this is the first N64 game re-release that the pair have revealed so far. Making me believe we may see Rayman 2: The Great Escape make a return in the future, also!

These games vary in price and will also be released alongside the console on July 28th at ModRetro's Official website. For those wondering what games the M64 is compatible with, ModRetro has released a very honest and open list of compatible games, some featuring major issues, but many work just fine. You can check this list here before purchasing.
