The Analogue 3D has only been with us for a few months at the time of writing, but the excitement it's caused within the retro gaming scene has been palpable. It's prompted modders to take a closer look at what's possible with the N64 and to bring their creations to a whole new generation of players, and that's why I love this scene.

It's amazing to see a console I opened when I was seven years old getting new enhancements and tech made for it today. Just take a look at this display cartridge made by Kyle Abreu, a neat little device that allows him to play N64 games on a screen slotted into the 3D itself. And, as the 3D runs off USB-C power, he can technically take it anywhere with him with a large enough power bank to run it from!

Writing on a post on Facebook, Kyle explains that he purchased a 3.5" screen cart for the N64 off AliExpress and modded his N64. He then tried it on the 3D and couldn't get the video to work, but after some messing around, finally got everything running smoothly.

As it's a Flash Cart, there's not a lot of space for your whole N64 back catalogue, but there's space for a few games at a time on there, which would be perfect if you were heading out on a trip and didn't want to take a large screen with you in your backpack.

Ok, you could just use an emulator like the MANGMI Air X, but this is way more novel. Can you imagine sticking your Analogue 3D on a train table, pulling out two controllers, and getting the person next to you to have a game of Mario Kart 64 with you? That would be a great experience, and I imagine after a while you'd draw a crowd bigger than they get for Subway Mania!

What do you think, would you use this on your Analogue 3D or N64, or is a bigger screen always the way to go? Let me know in the comments below!
