Miyoo Reveals Smaller Miyoo Mini Flip Handheld?

Miyoo Reveals Smaller Miyoo Mini Flip Handheld?

Right off the back of me writing an article about ANBERNIC releasing their own version of the Miyoo Flip in the form of the RG34XXSP, it seems Miyoo have teased a smaller version of their Miyoo Flip called the Miyoo "Mini" Flip which looks remarkably like the RG35XXSP but smaller.

Still with me?

If that confused you, then join the club, because it seems like these two companies are just playing tennis back and forth with each other making handhelds with small changes that basically mirror each others products. This time, Miyoo have taken things one step further by really honing in on the 'mini' aspect of their new handheld, with it coming at around two-thirds of the size of the Miyoo Mini V4 when folded up.

For reference, the Mini (second in the pic below) is 9.5 cm tall x 6.5 cm wide x 2cm thick. That means the Mini Flip will be the smallest handheld on the cusp of the 'funsize' consoles bracket which features the likes of the Funkey S and this terrible-tasting Micro GB I put in my mouth after losing a bet from Brandon.

Miyoo claim that the Mini Flip uses the same hardware as the Miyoo Mini V4, which means that as well as boasting a 1.2ghz dual core processor, 128MB of RAM and a 1900mah battery, it will also be compatible with Onion and have WiFi capabilities. But what do they mean by it will 'come early?'

It's no secret that Miyoo have had stocking issues with the original Flip console, alongside the hinge issues that plagued the initial V1 design. The fact that the V1 software was a little buggy and left little to be desired has also left fans feeling a little lacklustre about the Flip, it's why we didn't review it!

So I would imagine Miyoo are hoping that they'll be able to drag people back in with this new stickless version of the Flip. They'll be one of the first to make a small clamshell like this, which I think GKD will soon be on their tail if it does well.

The thing is, is removing sticks but giving us a console that's smaller than the Mini (see Brandon's crystal blue Mini below) a fair deal? It will essentially reserve the Miyoo Mini Flip for consoles up to the GBA which I'm not too angry about - for me, the 2.8" screen will be too small to see games for the PS1 or PSP anyway.

As I sort of hinted at the beginning of this article, with ANBERNIC bringing out their own Flip design in the updated RG34XXSP (in Purple as showcased by Brandon above), there really isn't any need to wait for the hinge issues or stock updates re the Miyoo Flip, so if you enjoyed the Mini V4 but want a smaller clamshell to put into your jacket pocket without having those joysticks taking up excess space, then Miyoo's bold move might be one that pays off for them and fills that handheld-shaped hole in your collection.
