Nintendo has been seriously toying with our wallets over the last couple of months. If you’ve seen their latest controller-themed keychains from the Gashapon machines in the Nintendo Store in Tokyo, then you’ll know exactly what I mean. And as I’m not heading to Tokyo any time soon, I’m forced to rely on paying an extortionate amount of money to buy them from someone off eBay.
But it’s not just Tokyo that’s getting the exclusives; Australia is getting some incredible gaming items heading to stores. As a man of Italian heritage, it’s no surprise that I love cooking, so the Pokémon-themed LeCrueset we covered recently is right up my street. Still, like everyone else who travels a lot for work or is sometimes just too lazy to cook, I’m also no stranger to heading to a McDonald’s and inputting an order that most people would think could feed a family of four. And what could be better than combining Chicken Nuggets and Mario Kart?
Nothing, that’s what!
Australian McDonald’s stores have started giving out Mario Kart collectible toys in all of their Happy Meal packages as of today, which has instantly said the Retro Dodo team heading to Skyscanner to do the maths as to whether adding more collectibles to our shelves would merit booking a flight from the UK. There are 10 figures in total in the collection, with Mario, Bowser, Yoshi, Gold Mario, Toadette, Toad, Pink Gold Peach, Donkey Kong, Peach, and Luigi.
Now I know what you’re thinking – a lot of these look like the figures we got back in 2022. Well, there are no bikes in this new collection; everyone is in karts like the good old days. According to Press Start Australia, the Gold Mario and Pink Gold Peach are rare figurines. We don’t have any stats about pull rates for these figurines, but I imagine it would take a lot of Chicken Nuggets and carrot sticks to find them!
