It seems like there are more upcoming handhelds than there are days in the year. To add to this ever growing market, Logitech G has announced that they are partnering with Tencent Games to launch a new handheld device specifically for cloud gamers.
This is no surprise, as there has been previous rumours of Tencent wanting to launch a handheld, so partnering with Logitech G who are well known for creating high end products, seems like a no brainer.
This upcoming handheld will support multiple cloud gaming services, and both companies are working with Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA Geforce NOW in hopes they can make this thing run the latest AAA games as smoothly as possible.
According to Logitech G and Tencent games they have a mutual vision for the future of handheld gaming will be like, and want to deliver a superior handhelds that works on the cloud like no other on the market.
They’ve also mentioned that they want to launch it this year, indicating that it’s likely already in production. The images within this article are concepts, and are not official images from LogitechG or Tencent games.
Perhaps cloud gaming is the future for handhelds, allowing most of the processing and graphical work to be done somewhere else, alongside the savings of memory when you load your games from the imaginary cloud.
I do see these types of handhelds becoming more popular over-time, but they do come with many disadvantages, the main issue is always having to be online, which is going to be hard for those of us that play on the go.
But i’ll be honest, majority of the time, handheld gamers are usually at home, or somewhere with strong internet signals, so it’s likely to not affect many. Again, there is likely going to be some internal storage, but it won’t be crazy amounts.
“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamers around the globe,” said Daniel Wu, general manager of Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab. “Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the frontiers of gaming devices.”
As of now there is no official information regarding specs, timings, pricing are even images of what it could look like. The image that was attached to the press release does feature an X which has a pink to light blue gradient inside.
Perhaps this could be teasing some colour options? Who knows. But if that is it, they have to watch out for the the AYANEO Air as that has similar colour detailing too.
LogitechG and Tencent just have to watch out for problems that we mentioned on YouTube, for example the long-wait times to ship orders, the under-whelming battery life and the poor customer service.
This handheld needs to compete with the Steam Deck or it will have no chance surviving in this aggressive market.
Update 30th August 2022
More images have leaked showcasing the upcoming Logitech Handheld in collaboration with Tencent. The main image that leaked is the featured imaged of this article (and above), and its showing off a similar design to what leaked many months ago.
The images were leaked by Evan Blass on Twitter with no description. The images were quickly removed by the “copyright holder” just a few hours after the leak.
The images showcases what looks like a cloud gaming handheld with access to the Google Play Store, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam, and even Google Chrome. It’s likely to be using an Android operating system.
In terms of design, it looks very similar to AYANEO 2, just without the hidden keyboard.
If we had to guess, it looks like it features a 7″ display, stacked shoulder buttons, back grips, and a very thin middle to the device, making us believe it could be incredibly light too.
It has a very simple layout, which could mean Logitech are trying to target an audience that are perhaps new to the handheld cloud gaming market.
To do that they will need to price it competitively. This all depends on what specs the device will feature and if it comes in different “editions”.
Without information regarding the price or specs it’s hard for us to tell what Logitech’s and Tencent’s plans are for this device. Could it be a budget handheld? Or will it be packed with lots of power, featured an OLED display and have incredible battery life?
It’s too early to tell, but it is rumoured that this handheld will be launched before the end of the year in hopes to get some Christmas sales.
Update 31st August 2022

It may feature a 8-core 1.8Ghz CPU, and 3.GB of RAM, alongside an Android 11 operating system with 6000MAH battery capacity.
