Jurassic Park is undoubtedly one of the greatest films of all time. I mean, as a boy who loved dinosaurs growing up in the 90s, there was no better film to be into. Seeing a diplodocus standing up and eating from the top of a tree or a T-rex trying to caus havoc ws the best thing on earth, and it still makes me feel like a kid whenever I watch it.

You might also know how much I love Pokémon if you've read any of my ROM hack articles before, another love that started in the 90s. I probably watched Jurassic Park 2 while playing Pokémon Red on my original Game Boy, so this feels like the perfect combination to me!

Poképark gameplay

The story of Jurassic PokéPark sees Larvesta, Bagon, Jigglypuff and Phanpy and their friends on a strange island after being washed ashore during a storm. Their treasure hunting expedition gets cut short when they discover that, like Jurassic Park, the past is very much the present. They discover a strange professor and must survive a prehistoric world if they want to make it back home.

This Pokémon Emerald ROM hack comes to us from HashtagMarky & Nico, and I've been playing it this morning on my Analogue Pocket. It has a feeling of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon about it, mainly because you're playing as a Pokémon instead of using a trainer. It certainly makes for a unique feel to the game, and the storyline changes based on your actions as you move through the game.

Snow level on Jurassic PokéPark

And yes - the soundtrack has tunes that are based on the Jurassic Park games. There are new sprites throughout the game and a fantastic overworld to explore as you journey back in time with your intrepid team. There are also achievements you can rack up over multiple playthroughs, giving you more of a reason to replay once you've completed it. You can access a guide too that's currently being worked on if you get stuck along the way, but this game is so good that it deserves you taking some time to figure out the bits before just giving in!

Head to Hackdex to patch your legally acquired copy of Pokémon Emerald and start playing!
