Many of us who love the N64 will know that ModRetro's M64 is imminent, with an announced release date of July 28th. It's here to shake up the Nintendo 64 emulation scene and not only offers a modern, 4K experience, but comes with new games, a clean UI and a new wireless Trident controller that will cost $80+.

If that controller is too much for you and you're not keen on the wireless mode, then ModRetro has partnered with renowned controller maker Hyperkin to release a $29 alternative called the Captain+ that matches the transparent colours of ModRetro's new console and comes with some modest features:

  • Hall Effect Stick
  • Precise Circularity
  • Dual Layer PCB
  • Expansion Port Compatibility
  • Redesigned Grip For Added Comfort
  • 10ft Long Cable
  • Upgraded Silicone Membrane

Good news for those who have been waiting patiently, the Captain+ is now available on Amazon to pre-order, shipping on August 1st, just a couple of days after the M64's release! Colour options are:

It's a cheap alternative to other modern Nintendo 64 controllers and one that will match your choice of console perfectly. Admittedly, it isn't made of metal like the wireless Triden coming out with the M64, but it's as good as you're going to get for $30, no doubt.
