It's mind-boggling to think that Hyperkin first launched the SupaBoy way back in 2011... yes, almost 15 years ago this handheld made its way onto the market, followed by minor refreshes such as the SupaBoy S in 2016, then the SupaBoy SFC in 2018. The latest model is great, and no wonder Hyperkin hasn't needed to upgrade it since ..

Though they aren't ignoring it, and have instead decided to give it yet another cosmetic refresh, with two new colourways that will undoubtedly excite many retro gamers, and actually, I think it's a good marketing stunt too, because many who are new to the retro gaming and handheld scene still have no idea that this device exists.

Hyperkin announced on their socials that two new colourways are coming to the SupaBoy, Crimson and Prime. Crimson takes inspiration from the iconic Nintendo Super Famicom, thanks to its transparent red shell, and golden graphics around the buttons, alongside the Prime version nodding to the SNES with a transparent shell, and colourful buttons, just like the iconic controller.

Hyperkin are showing off the new colours in person at Classic Game Fest — July 24–26, Austin TX, Booth #6, yet haven't announced the official release date or pricing, apart from a small hint of "Fall 2026". So, until then, we have to wait to hear more, but so far, these look beautiful!
