Pokémon Stadium was one of my favourite titles as a kid. I used to play the minigames with my mum a lot, but seeing the Kanto 151 up on the big screen and using their moves against each other was fantastic. It felt like stepping into a Pokémon arena for real and was the closest I thought we could come to being a Pokémon Trainer.
Fast forward to 2026, and we've had so many Pokémon games since the 90s, including Pokémon Go, which literally made me feel like there were Pokémon running around in my back garden. Still, from all of the mainline games, mods, and hacks, there aren't many that let you battle other Pokémon in real time.
🤩🚨- CINEMA!

Modder u/Distinct-Spend7728 has been working on exactly that within Hytale, however, creating a Pokémon mod where you attack and move around as a Pokémon in real time, pulling off moves and battling your opponent while your trainer watches from the sideline. You'll be in charge of evading your opponent's Pokémon's moves and honing your fighting skills, proving what we knew all along - Pikachu was the brains of the business, and Ash was just the executive figurehead.
Becoming a Pokémon was one of the main things that I loved the most about the Mystery Dungeon series. It's also why I'm excited for Pokopia too. It just mixes up the formula and lets us get right into the action, and I'm all for mods that give us a fresh view on our favourite games.
Bulbasaur definitely looks a little more on the blocky side than he normally does, but you can definitely tell which Pokémon it is. I'm intrigued to see more of u/Distinct-Spend7728's work on this mod as the weeks go on - I hope they're planning on bringing Mewtwo into the game!
