Power Your iPhone With A Game Boy Advance SP Charging Stand

With all the hype about Game Boy emulators appearing on iPhone, gamers can now rest their iPhones on their Game Boys… sort of.

Enter the MagSafe MS W5 Charging Stand, or as most people will refer to it as, the Game Boy Advance SP Charging Stand.

Not to be confused with content creator outfitters Elgato, this silicone charging stand is produced by a company called Elago, who advertise the stand as “inspired by a retro handheld gaming device”.

The “retro handheld gaming device” in question is of course, the Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo’s sophisticated 2003 revision to the Game Boy Advance.

Elago’s charging stand is MagSafe compatible, meaning your 12, 13, 14 or 15 series iPhone should remain fixed when perched on top of this GBA SP screen. The stand should also allow for those with MagSafe phone cases to take advantage of its novel design.

Buyers should note that the Mag Safe charging kit isn’t included with the Game Boy Advance SP stand, which costs $25.99/£29.99/€24.68 at Amazon.

Stand And Deliver

Elago’s GBA SP charging stand’s angled screen allows users to mount their iPhones in landscape, enabling gamers using the stand to prop up their mobiles as a screen while they play games using a dedicated controller. With emulators such as Provenance and PPSSPP arriving on the App Store shortly, this seems like the most practical use case.

There’s also a potential solution for watching YouTube cooking tutorials while keeping your hands free for food preparation, although balancing your iPhone on an actual Game Boy Advance SP would have the same effect and allow you to play Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories afterwards.

Elago doesn’t specifically highlight these potential use cases and instead only highlights the stands functions as a charger holder and a stand, which I admit, wouldn’t look out of place in a Nintendo fanatic’s home office.
