Seeing games like Sonic Mania running on the Dreamcast looks wild to a Retro Gamer like me, but if you're a younger gamer who thinks a Dreamcast is one of those things that you hang above your head with feathers on it, then seeing Fortnite running on a 3DS might be more up your street.
I came across this video of a gamer on Reddit playing Fortnite on their Nintendo 3DS with the game running better than it ever did on my Nintendo Switch OLED. Granted, it runs perfectly on my Nintendo Switch 2, but seeing it running on the discontinued 3DS piqued my interest immediately.
What platform does everyone play on? I play on Nintendo 3DS

Of course, a couple of seconds later once the excitement gave way to sceptisism, I realised that it was being streamed to the device via a homebrew app, most likely Moonlight/Sunshine. Essentially, the original poster FortNiteBR is streaming Fortnite from their PC onto their Nintendo 3DS in the video above, effectively using the handheld as an extension of their computer.
It's a nice idea to think that the New 3DS would be able to play Fortnite natively like the Switch, but its specs are so far short of the mark that it wouldn't ever be possible. You need at least 8GB of RAM to play Fortnite, but the New 3DS only has 256MB!
A bit of fun - that's all it is. But you've got to admit, it's a cool idea that keeps the 3DS alive and would certainly make for tricking your friends when they come round to your house, even for a short while! Don't go out and buy a 3DS hoping you can play Fortnite on it, guys, but by all means grab some of our top recommended games for the handheld instead!
