An incredible new independently produced documentary behind the epic franchise Mother/EarthBound has just launched – enter ‘EarthBound USA’!
And it’s as crazy and exciting as you might expect…if you have some familiarity with the games, that is.
Mother is one of those franchises that has amassed a dedicated cult following throughout the years, despite its lack of exposure in western markets.
This is primarily due to the fact that all of the Mother titles were only ever released in Japan, with the exception of “EarthBound” (Mother 2) which released for the SNES.
The game series follows in the footsteps of games like Dragon Quest and The Legend of Zelda and has become an inspiration in its own right.
In fact, my own game The Mayor of Sanctuary has taken small inspiration from it, and so has one of my favorite games of all time – Eastward.
So, it is really no surprise that somebody has taken on the extremely difficult task of digging into how the series came to western markets. And why the long lost Nintendo 64 title never happened.
EarthBound USA
“EarthBound USA” is an independently produced documentary covering the history behind EarthBound, which released on the SNES home console in 1994 (JP) and 1995 (NA).
It is also a full investigation into the Mother franchise and the long lost Nintendo 64 entry that never came to light.
The documentary primarily hopes to uncover details surrounding the five year development that resulted in one of the best SNES RPGs of all time and the trouble with EarthBound 64.
It is surprising how much footage related to the Mother franchise that the documentary team has uncovered this long after its release.
This exciting new video game documentary will feature interviews with MOTHER series creator Shigesato Itoi, as well as former Nintendo employees, and the fans who have kept the “Mother” name alive all of these years.
