You know how the movie Inception was like a dream within a dream? Well, the Dolphin emulator can now emulate the Game Boy Player within the emulator itself, meaning that the GameCube has some inception of its own going on!
The Dolphin emulator can now emulate the Gameboy player which allowed you to play Gameboy Color, and GBA games directly on your TV from the gamecube console.

They put an emulator in your emulator, this is not a joke. 😆pic.twitter.com/AuptOw2QuW https://t.co/KwMh673aW3
For those of you who aren't sure what the Game Boy Player is, it's not just a fancy name for a Game Boy handheld. It was an accessory that attached to the underside of the GameCube that allowed you to slot in your Game Boy, GBC, and GBA games into it and power them via the GameCube, meaning you could play them on your TV.
You might have seen us checking out the original Game Boy Player and the Game Boy Player for the Panasonic Q when we went to check out Europe's biggest Nintendo collection over in the Netherlands back in 2025. Now, it doesn't matter whether you have a Game Boy Player or even the GameCube itself, as Dolphin has you covered!
And I know what some of you might be thinking - we can't trust anything that's announced around April Fools Day. Heck, half of the news publications we know were checking everything 8 times before posting yesterday just to be on the safe side. But gamers on the Dolphin Reddit page and Dolphin's GitHub page have confirmed that this update is legit. Just don't announce things on April 1st, guys - it makes us all tense!
Head to the Dolphin Emulator website to download and check it out for yourself.
