Say hello to Project Renaissance, a project by modder RockerGaming designed to bring a professional level of gaming to the iconic 90s controller. When it comes to looks, the N64 pad will always be the most interesting remote out there, but it was a bit of a different story when it came to being a comfortable or precise unit.
Project Renaissance is designed to bring control back to N64 gamers and give an extra level of precision to enthusiasts or professional players. The stick was made in collaboration with X user and N64 controller modder @ALinkToTao and boasts a 'unique adjustment system' to calibrate the stick for each gamer's individual specifications. There's a tongue and groove system now to keep the stick cap more secure, and a tapered design that engages with the controller's Renaissance gate.
Yes, all of this would have gone over my head when I first got my N64 as a kid, but I'm here for it now!
The stick was created with @ALinkToTao, who has a history of crafting high-quality sticks for the N64 scene. We collaborated to combine innovative ideas into one package. We affectionately call it the Tao v4 OEM Pro. pic.twitter.com/bCxfA6aQi3

As RockerGaming explains, 'we changed up the cap design to feature a unique tongue and groove system to better support the cap and reduce the chance it comes loose during game play.'
Gamers will need to source their own spring, encoder wheels, encoder PCB, lower housing, and gears, but kits for the sticks, bowls, and gates go on sale at 10 AM CST today (Friday 18th April 2025) with no tariff for US customers. Keep an eye out on RockerGaming's X Account and their Etsy for more details coming soon!
