We’ve been big fans of both Numskull and Bitmap Bureau for a while now, and the fact that they’re teaming up to bring the Bitmap Bureau Collection to consoles in a physical release this Summer is something we’re very excited about.
For those of you who don’t know, Bitmap Bureau are 2D gaming wizards. They specialise in creating new games in a nostalgic style that we retro gamers are all-too-familiar with, bringing top-down NES-style action and side-scrolling arcade vibes to modern consoles for a whole new generation of gamers to enjoy.
This Summer, the Bitmap Bureau Collection will drop on Switch, PS5, and PS4, with one of the games in the collection seeing its first official retail release.
Three Games For The Price Of One
If you’re a Retro Dodo regular, then you’ll no doubt have seen us mentioning Final Vendetta in the past, a Streets Of Rage-style beat ’em up that packs a serious punch. With exclusive tracks from Utah Saints and an immense techno soundtrack, it’s more 90s than I am (and I was born in 1990!).
We’ve also covered the second title Battle Axe before now too, a retro-licious hack-and-slash fest that will see your button-mashing finger getting a serious workout. Imagine Gauntlet Dark Legacy designed by the legendary artist Henk Nieborg, all accompanied by a score from video game music composer Manami Matsumae.
I know… that’s the stuff that dreams are made of, right?
The final title in the collection, Xeno Crisis, is a shoot ’em up with run-n-gun action, peppering hordes of enemies with an endless stream of bullets in a bid to save lives. Aliens are trying to destroy you at every turn, and it’s up to you to thwart them and wipe them from the universe once and for all!
When Is The Collection Releasing?
Pre-orders for the Bitmap Bureau Collection are heading to Numskull Games incredibly soon, with the game releasing this Summer. The standard edition with no extras will cost £39.99 / €44.99.
As always with these two powerhouses, there will be a special edition that includes some epic collectibles, but we don’t have any information about that yet other than the fact that it is coming.
As always, check back for more information as and when we get it!
