Need an extra push to get out into the world but but have either completed or got bored of catching pocket monsters? Don’t worry; here’s 7 games like Pokemon Go to play in 2023.
Pokemon Go persuaded so many people to get outside when it first came out. I know that there’s an argument for not looking at your screen while you’re outside, but you can’t deny that it’s a great way of keeping fit.
If you or a loved one needs a little bit of extra persuasion to go up that mountain or leave the poolside to go exploring the local area while on holiday, then here are 7 games to play like Pokemon Go that will get your step count up and your heart pumping.
Oh, and don’t forget your battery packs!

7. Geocaching (2014)
We’ve got to start this list with the mother of all ‘getting out exploring apps’, the Geocaching app.
For those of you that don’t know what Geocaching is, it’s like a real life treasure hunt where users can find hidden items all over the world.
It might range from a notebook where people can sign to say ‘I found this Geocache and where they are from’ to a box filled with cool trinkets for people to take.
Geocaching is a great way to turn a family walk into a massive adventure for kids of any age, or most of my 30-year-old mates that can’t be bothered getting out into the countryside.
6. Angry Birds AIR: Isle Of Pigs (2019)
Imagine scanning the real world for green pigs to take down with the Angry Birds crew.
At the time of writing, there are over 17,000 levels that have been created by users, all waiting for you to uncover as you move through the park, go on holiday, head out on that work trip, or run for the train.
It’s Angry birds with a difference, and that main difference is Augmented Reality. It’s not enough to make this game feature any further down this list, but it’s still awesome!
5. Draconius Go (2018)
Draconius Go takes the 5th spot in our list of the best games like Pokemon go to play in 2023!
Ok, so this is exactly the same as Pokemon Go, it just boasts catching dragons instead of Pokemon! Tame a dragon… well, tame over 200 of them, learning spells and enhancing your monsters as you progress through the game!
The game mechanics are so much like Pokemon Go that you’ll have no problem getting stuck in and catching your first dragons. Honestly, I don’t really know how the devs have got away with it!
4. Orna: The GPS RPG (2022)
Remember our list of the best SNES RPGs that we spent hours curating? Well, Orna: The GPS RPG plays and feels like Chrono Trigger and Secret Of Evermore, with players heading out to traverse real paths and tracks in order to fight.
You can fight other users, giving you some real couch co-op vibes but out in the great outdoors. Forest log co-op?
There are over 300 monsters to fight in the different dungeons that you’ll encounter on the way through this game. Surprisingly, Despite being one of the newest games in this list, it looks and feels just like all of our old pixelated favourites from yesteryear.
3. Ingress Prime (2018)
Ingress Prime is a reboot of Ingress, the first game that Niantic made back in the day.
And while it looks a little like Tron on steroids, it’s a great game for anyone that needs an excuse to get out and explore, with players searching for Exotic Matter.
And I don’t think that means Hawaiian shirts or Dragonfruit.
Pick a side, hunt for matter, and head out into the world in a bid to explore attractions and landmarks in your local area and indeed the wider world.
Hey, it’s getting you outside and learning more too – not a bad app, right?
2. Pikmin Bloom (2021)
Pikmin Bloom isn’t as tough as some of the other games in this list, but it involves you walking outdoors searching for Pikmin… which is why it instantly shot to second place in this list.
Walking around makes you grow Pikmin. If you’re here reading this article, then there’s a strong chance you’ll already know who and what Pikmin are. If you haven’t, then go back and check out the latest game in our list of the best Nintendo Switch games.
Flowers grow behind you as you walk and plant them in your neighbourhood and sometimes you’ll experience multiplayer events in game too.
Remember, the only way to get your Pikmin to grow is to walk, so get those steps in!
1. Jurassic World Alive (2018)
Jurassic World Alive takes the top spot in our list of the best games like Pokemon Go to play in 2023!
I mean, if you love searching for Pokemon but want a bigger challenge, then I guess throwing Dinosaurs into the mix works really well, right?
Search for dino DNA, make dinos, fight dinos, search for dinos. Honestly, it’s the best mobile game for people who have a dual passion for the outdoors and imagining what walks would be like if they were being chased by a massive T-Rex.
Until you’ve fought some turn-based battles in the middle of the woods with some epic scaly critters, then you’ve never lived.
It might not be catching Dragonite or Eternatus, however, but it’s probably 100 times scarier!
