You may have been aware of AYANEO's catastrophic launch of their new Pocket Micro 2 handheld, a redefined and sleeker version of the original Pocket Micro handheld that emulates GBA at 4x pixel-perfect resolution.
This device was teased for many weeks, hundreds, if not thousands, of retro gamers were excited to finally see and buy what was on show, that was until 20 minutes after their very long livestream, the handheld was out of stock, with a comment from the CEO saying that it "may never come back". That was because AYANEO only allocated 100 units to international customers and about 1,000 to Chinese customers.
A tiny, minuscule number for the handheld giant, and one that bit them in the backside quite quickly, as it seemed more customers than they anticipated wanted this device, and I don't blame them, the original was a remarkable, premium and minimal device, and the second generation comes with recessed sticks and a headphone jack, which many requested originally.
Well, even after the threat of the Pocket Micro 2 not returning, it looks like Arthur and AYANEO have seen the demand, and are indeed bringing it back in stock, and quickly too, with pre-orders being available on July 10th 8pm PDT, which is today for some of you, and early into the morning of the 11th for Europeans.
This will be stocked on AYANEO's official page (save this link and set your alarms) on a first-come, first-served basis which will ship in late August. This could mean, yet again, it has limited stock if those words are being used. So it's not shipping as quickly as the lucky 100 who purchased it, but quickly enough to feel like a normal, or somewhat swift shipping time for AYANEO as a whole.
To add the cherry on top, AYANEO are also adding a 6GB + 128GB model, specifically for the Stardust Purple Edition, making the choice of:
- 6GB + 128GB = $239 (Midnight Black and Frosty White)
- 6GB + 128GB = $269 (Startdust Purple)
- 8GB + 256GB = $279 (Midnight Black and Frost White)
- 8GB + 256GB = $309 (Stardust Purple)
I personally really like my original Pocket Micro classic, so I am excited to see this one make its way into more people's hands because it's a very sleek way to play GBA games and below, even if it's a little on the pricey side.
