We’ve all played the Animal Crossing track on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, racing through all four seasons with Villager in the B-Dasher rocketing past his opponents. But have you played Animal Crossing Kart before, a dedicated ROM hack of Super Mario Kart created by SeanThe Mii? It was a great idea and had potential, but I think we could all agree that it could have had more substance, and that includes its creator too. Well, SeanTheMii has returned with Animal Crossing Kart Deluxe, a new and improved ROM hack that improves on his original formula and adds some extra touches to the mix too.
Sean has updated the ROM hack with better features that give players a much more exciting experience such as new backgrounds and improved tracks with more complex designs. He’s also worked on better animations on the podiums and improved character portraits when the race is over, as well as fixing errors in the character’s designs during gameplay.
While the box looks a little mad, the gameplay definitely looks great. There are three new characters to choose from and some new tracks to race on too, as well as two-player battle courses. There’s also the dreaded blue shell to contend with, an item I’ve been hit by on many occasions… my Mario Kart 8 Deluxe vs record is abysmal!
To get this ROM hack working, you’ll need to patch it onto your (legally obtained) ROM of the USA version of Super Mario Kart. Head to SeanTheMii’s itch.io page for more information!
