Earlier this week, ANBERNIC lifted the lid off their new clamshell device, a refined version of their popular SP series of devices, with 10% less thickness, new bezels and better buttons, apparently. It also comes in a range of colours, including "Pearl" colours that obviously resemble the original GBA SP's metallic colours of the past.
I was surprised at how well this announcement went down with the ANBERNIC community, many stating it's the update they've been waiting for, as many previous customers absolutely adore the RG35XXSP and RG34XXSP.
As of today, ANBERNIC has shared a gameplay video on their YouTube channel, showing off the look, feel and emulation power of the ANBERNIC RG SP, including GAME BOY Advance, GAME BOY Color, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS and more.
They also shared some of the specifications in the description, which is our first look at the technical side of the RG DS. ANBERNIC shared the following:
- 3.4" IPS Display (720 x 480)
- 1GB RAM
- 3x pixel-perfect GBA scaling.
Not a lot of information, but enough to know its capabilities and these specifications are close to identical in comparison to the RG34XXSP, even though some minor aesthetic changes have happened, such as a reduced screen bezel, 90% different moulds for the shell and a 10% smaller back.
So, emulation performance is on the "low" level, but that's what we were all expecting from something like this, it's simply a slimmer, more refined version of their popular RG SP line, hopefully coming in at a similar price too, the RG34XXSP costs $67.99 and the RG35XXSP costs $57.99, so my bet is that it will be around this price, but only time well tell.
