You guys know how much I love the 64DD, despite never actually owning one. It's one of those consoles I've always been fascinated with and have read tonnes about, but never actually managed to purchase, especially due to it being a Japan-only peripheral. Brandon once referred to it as my 'white whale', and this transparent prototype of the console definitely fits that description!

The prototype cropped up in Hard4Games' latest YouTube video, along with a cool-looking dog that definitely stole the show. According to the information on the video and info shared by Nintendo Wire, the console sold for $7,000, which is an extraordinary amount for a console that only has a handful of games. That, and the console itself isn't actually working, making this one of the most expensive Nintendo ornaments in history!

Thankfully, an eagle-eyed Bluesky user named Yakumono, who you might know as luigiblood, managed to download all the pictures of the console before the listing on the Japanese auction website disappeared. There was a little speculation as to whether this was the real authentic console or a replica, but the yellowing of the plastic definitely makes this look like an aged console to me. And the fact that it isn't currently working also makes me think it's old as opposed to a replica.

I definitely recommend watching the whole video posted by Hard4Games below and honing in on the segments about the speculations around the accompanying disk. It's a fascinating watch, and I hope the person who paid $7,000 for this console manages to get it up and running so they can have one of the most unique 64DDs of all time!
