The iconic Taito Arcade classic is set to hit the big screen after New Line Cinema enlisted screenwriters Ben Zazove and Evan Turner to put pen to paper and bring it to life.

Space Invaders sits with the likes of PAC-MAN and Tetris as one of the most famous and influential games of all time. It's coming up to 5 decades since Tomohiro Nishikado's famous game arrived in arcades and has since become one of the most easily recognisable brands in gaming history, spawning everything from lunchboxes to watches, clothing, jewelry, and much more.

While we don't know anything about the specifics of the storyline yet, it's been revealed that Weed Road Pictures are in charge of production. With titles like Hancock, I Am Legend, and Constantine in their back catalogue, it would seem that Space Invaders is in very good hands. And with Zazove and Turner currently working on a piece that has John Cena's name attached to it, then we could well be seeing another wrestler like Cody Rhodes as a brave American who saves his planet against invading aliens.

What elements would you like to see in the storyline of a Space Invaders movie? Let us know in the comments!
