Sometimes when the big companies don't want to revisit old games to remaster or remake them entirely, it's up to the fans to step in and take on the challenge. That's exactly what's happening with Counter-Strike 1.6, with a team of developers completely remaking the game from the ground up and announcing the project with an incredible trailer that has left us very excited.
The new trailer for CS: Legacy (thanks to our friends at PC Gamer for the heads up!) released alongside news that the game itself is being developed by a team of experienced Counter-Strike modders including some who worked on the ProMod fan game back in 2006.

CS: Legacy has been built using Valve's own official Source Engine and features all new assets and code, with the team doing everything they possibly can to make the game feel like a title that modern audiences can connect with.
Introducing CS:Legacy, a fully standalone remake of Counter-Strike 1.6, built from the ground up on Valve's official Source Engine SDK, and our follow up project to CSPromod.

The game features fully custom assets and game code, on top of our own major rewrites to the renderer,…
The trailer has even caught the eye of one of the creators of the Counter-Strike series. Minh 'Gooseman' Lee says that the trailer for CS: Legacy gives him 'old CS 1.6 vibes', and that he appreciates the fact that the developers have used the original animations for the various weapons found throughout the game and when characters get 'bumped off', so to speak. He also showed a little bit of concern as to whether Valve would allow it to be released or not, so let's keep everything crossed for the time being.
All being well, the game itself is set to arrive on Steam for early access later this year. Keep an eye out for more details arriving here as and when I get them, and check out the official trailer for CS: Legacy below!
