You Can Now Play DOOM In A PDF File

Doom running within a PDF file

The main question in life isn’t ‘What is my purpose?’ or ‘Where do we go when we die?’, it’s whether or not you can put DOOM on or in something. During my time at Retro Dodo, I’ve seen Doom put onto a lawnmower, a McDonald’s order screen, and a pregnancy test. I’ve even seen it on an ‘adult toy’ for crying out loud! The DOOM modding community clearly won’t rest until they have got the game running on everything they possibly can, a fact that is clearly apparent in the recent news that you can now play DOOM with a PDF file.

‘Why?’ I hear you ask. Well, simply because ‘Why not?’. It’s not been done yet, and now the DOOM community can tick it off their list! The news was shared by Culture Crave on X and shows a seven-second clip of the game running inside a PDF file, which let’s be honest is the kind of attachment we would all like to open up in our emails instead of invoices and pictures your mum has taken of next door’s cat.

The PDF hack (never thought I would write those words in my life) was made by a user on Github called adding2210 and uses simple WASD movement controls. It’s probably not something you would put a lot of hours into, but it’s a neat little hack nonetheless. Check out the clip below to see DOOM PDF Guy in action!
