As an Analogue Pocket & ModRetro Chromatic owner, the notion of playing new Game Boy Color games has never been more appealing. I know I spend my life writing about retro games, but as we enter 2025 it genuinely feels like I’ve traveled back in time to the 90s and am back holding those trademark cardboard boxes instead of picking up plastic PS5 cases. It’s incredible that almost 30 years after the handheld released, the retro gaming community is still making games for this iconic console, which brings me nicely to Snout, a new Game Boy Color title from Saangames that will be dropping soon on Kickstarter!
Collectible GB Carts will be spread throughout the game. Finding all will unlock a bonus level 🐽 #gameboy #gamedev #indiedev #gbstudio #gbdev #retrogaming #ドット絵 #ゲームボーイ Kickstarter campaign coming soon: www.kickstarter.com/projects/360…

I’ve spent the morning watching videos of Snout on the game’s Bluesky page, checking out the titular pink hero collecting GB carts hidden around levels and using Snout powers to dispatch enemies like a pro. The game levels look incredibly vibrant and channels that friendly-fun vibe that the GBC was always (and still is) known for. I love the mechanic of making a bubble and jumping on top of it a little like Mario with Cappy in Super Mario Odyssey shown in the video below, and I get the feeling that Snout is going to be heading on some taxing adventures throughout the game that will really grip me from the get-go.

There’s no information as to when the Kickstarter will launch yet, but I’m sure it will smash all of its goals incredibly quickly and bring home the bacon for Saangames. While some little piggies go to market and some stay at home, this little piggy is going to win the hearts and minds of retro gamers everywhere in 2025!
