Donkey Kong Land Swings Onto Nintendo Switch Online

Seb's Switch with Donkey Kong Land

Donkey Kong really is the man… mean ape of the moment. This week marks 30 years of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, he’s got a new expansion opening up at Super Nintendo World next month, and as a result, millions of people are walking around humming the DK Rap and considering whether they could also get away with just wearing a tie to the office. Now, Nintendo has added Donkey Kong Land to their Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy emulator for fans to keep the simian celebrations going.

Now, there is a misconception that these games are just ports of the SNES games for the Game Boy. They share the same art styles for the box art and gameplay, but they’re different games in their own right. Obviously, the concepts are still the same, but Donkey Kong Land has different levels to the SNES version, so don’t pass this one by just because you’ve torn your hair out on Mine Cart Carnage!

Obviously, the DMG wasn’t as powerful as the SNES which is why the levels look so different, but they’re still super fun to play. It has a feel of Super Mario Land and Wario Land about it in terms of graphics and gameplay style… which definitely isn’t a coincidence. Collect bananas and bash the bad guys as you make your way through 30 different levels.

Head to Nintendo Switch Online for more information. You only need the base-level package and not the expansion to play DMG games, so if you haven’t already signed up, get a subscription and play Donkey Kong Land as well as tonnes of other amazing Game Boy, NES, and SNES games!
