Fans of Soul Reaver are preparing for an early Christmas present to themselves after an announcement during the PlayStation State of Play event of a remastered collection of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2. The new upgraded titles are coming to us from Aspyr & Crystal Dynamics as part of the series’ 25th Anniversary, and they feature a tonne of exciting new features that will make long-time fans of the game incredibly happy.
For starters, a lot has happened in 25 years. Graphics processors have hulked out, consoles have become more powerful, and control options have become smoother. This new collection takes all of these things into account, bringing a beautiful duo of games that play just like the modern titles you’re used to in 2024. There’s even a new Photo Mode to capture all of the action and share with your friends.
One thing I love about these newly remastered collections like the Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered and the new Lunar collection is that players can switch between old and new graphics for a deeper sense of nostalgia and also to see how far gaming has come since the 90s. Admittedly it might make you feel incredibly old in the process, but not as old as a vampire, so there’s always that…
Die-hard fans of the series will also enjoy immersing themselves in environments from the Lost Levels as part of the bonus materials in the collection, as well as drooling over concept art. The collection drops on December 10th, 2024 and will be available on all the usual consoles from Nintendo Switch to Steam.
Don’t forget that this isn’t the only news we’ve had about Kain this year, however. A collection is also coming to Evercade after an announcement about the latest Giga Cart release on September 30th. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver arrive on the Evercade in a couple of days as the Legacy of Kain Collection 1 with a price tag on Amazon of £22.49/$24.99.
