This has certainly been one of Nintendo’s biggest Directs in a while, kicking it off with the launch of a new Mario & Luigi title after 9 years of… not much.
Now, Nintendo closed their Direct with the announcement of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, their latest Metroid game that will release in 2025 and developed by Retro Studios, with no new information regarding if it will launch on new hardware, which if i had to guess… it will be launched on both the Switch and the “Switch 2”.
The last Metroid Prime game to release was way back in 2016 and that was Metroid Prime: Federation Force… and before you say it, I am not counting the remaster that we had last year!
The announcement trailer swiftly gets into the action, showing the return of Samus jumping off a spaceship and into first-person goodness.
The graphics are certainly a step up and will put the Nintendo Switch to its limits. In the first 60 seconds of the trailer it shows a heck of a lot, from rocket launchers, to space pirates, to body scans and a brief glimpse at the classic morph ball which squeezes you into small spaces and new areas.
There’s even a cut-scene that shows one of the main bad guys… which I don’t want to spoil, so I’ll let you see it for yourself.
There was no official reveal of the release date, apart from 2025, which is a step in the right direction and i am hoping this isn’t delayed as it feels like it’s been in the making for over 10 years now! The logo has also had a slight change too, featuring BEYOND in pink instead of the flames styling that they revealed a while back.
I am excited for this one and happy that Nintendo revealed some gameplay too!
