15-year-old Tetris Player Breaks Multiple Records With The Highest Ever Recorded Score

Tetris is a game that will never lose popularity with players across the globe, and one of the best things that we see here at Retro Dodo is the fact that younger players are continually keeping the game alive. Take 15-year-old Alex Thach who has now achieved the highest ever recorded score in Tetris, a feat that has ended up winning him thousands of dollars in prizes.

Last year the world was in awe of Blue Scuti after becoming the first human to reach the Tetris kill screen. Now, however, Alex has taken the Tetris crown by reaching Level 157 with 6 lines complete, five more than Blue Scuti’s incredible achievement. His efforts have effectively made him the Tetris Grandmaster, and if you want to take that accolade and put it on your social media profiles, Alex, I’ll fully endorse it.

Getting stuck in a rabbit hole after reading an article over on Tom’s Hardware, I’ve been learning all about Alex Thach’s Tetris career thus far. When I was 11 years old and pretending to be a Star Wars character while wielding a broom, Alex was racking up a maximum score of 999,999 on his copy of Tetris for the NES. His early endeavours have clearly paid off, as you can see Alex boasting in the video above that he’s about to use his skills to ‘demolish every world record’ for one of the world’s most popular video games.

The prize pot for the first streamer to achieve over 10 million points on the game was $2,300, which while admittedly isn’t the kind of money that you could use to retire to the South of France, it’s a lot of money for a 15-year-old to receive and undoubtedly more than I used to get in pocket money back then!
