When I woke up this morning, I didn’t expect to be met with an impossible decision that would render my brain obsolete for the rest of the day.

The nominations for the Video Game Hall of Fame are up online, and now I have to decide between Metroid and Tony Hawks Pro Skater to go into one of the most prestigious vaults of video gaming history to ever exist.

As people who have read my articles will know, I’m a big Metroid fan. Samus is one of the best protagonists Nintendo have ever created; she takes no prisoners and puts herself in immense danger all the time, all while wearing one of the coolest and most iconic battle suits ever made.

But on the other hand, THPS is an absolute tour de force and one of the greatest PS1 games I’ve ever played. Tony Hawk has done more for the world of skateboarding than anyone else, including allowing people like me who have zero skill at skateboarding to pull off epic moves that we could brag to our mates about.

I’m going to have to close my eyes and just click one – how can anyone make this decision?

The Full List Of Nominations For The Video Game Hall Of Fame

The full list of games available to vote for is as follows:

  • Asteroids
  • Elite
  • Guitar Hero
  • Metroid
  • Myst
  • Neopets
  • Resident Evil
  • SimCity
  • Tokimeki Memorial
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
  • Ultima
  • You Don’t Know Jack

Trust me when I say that it was hard not putting Resident Evil into my final choice of two games as well. But when you consider that Sim City is also in the mix… well, I’m just wishing there was a button to put them all in the Hall of Fame and have done with it.

Gamers can make 1 vote per day, so I suppose I could vote for a different game every day and just hedge my bets…

Players can make their votes over on The Strong National Museum of Play website and have up until March 21st. Hopefully, I’ll be able to decide by then… maybe.

Another Nintendo Title Could Be Hitting The Vault

Last year as a great year for Nintendo, with GoldenEye 007 on the N64 being nominated and Wii Sports receiving an induction into the vault of gaming greatness.

Ocarina of Time went into the Hall of Fame the year before, and 2001’s Animal Crossing the year before that.

The inclusion of Metroid would mean a 4th consecutive win for Nintendo and the 5th in 6 years, with 2019 marking the year that Super Mario Kart was finally recognised as one of video gaming’s all-time greats.

Who will you be voting for?
