Bloomberg has reported a rumor that the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will feature an 8 inch LCD and will release in 2024.

The source of this information was Omidia‘s Hiroshi Hayase. Their independent research determined that Nintendo increased their demand “for display panels by 14.6 million units”.

In May of 2023, Bloomberg also reported that Nintendo and Sharp were working together to create a new LCD panel for the Switch 2.

These consecutive reports may or may not offer convincing evidence that we should anticipate that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will implement an LCD panel provided by Sharp.

The only thing we know for sure is that gaming fans are very hungry for the Switch 2. And we are certainly in the final hour for the ever popular Switch console.

This obsessive hunger for information has resulted in media outlets doing everything they can to offer something to keen readers.

A History of Switch 2 Rumors

Nintendo Switch 2 / Switch Pro rumors have been consistently reported by media outlets and influencers alike for years now. But they have certainly increased quite a bit in the past year.

And this increase is because it is very evident that the Switch has reached its limits. And Nintendo absolutely must offer a substantial upgrade soon or fans will begin to lose faith.

Of course, we are also guilty of covering some of these rumors that did not pan out.

Like the rumored July 2023 Switch 2 announcement or the leaked name for the device being the ‘Super Nintendo Switch‘.

A working Switch 2 had been rumored to be present at Gamescon 2023, according to many outlets such as Eurogamer.

That demonstration model reportedly ran a remastered version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which ran at a higher framerate and resolution.

A Video Games Chronicle source also claimed that the Switch 2 ran the Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, which was made for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Of course, all of these extravagant claims were later denied by Nintendo.

Eurogamer reported that the Switch 2 will leverage the Nvidia T234 processor, because of a photo that was released in 2021 by “noted technology leaker kopite7kimi”.

And Gamesradar reported that the new Switch 2 will have power similar to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One “according to an internal Activision email”.

Perhaps you are starting to see a theme here – The best source of information about the Nintendo Switch successor is Nintendo, despite the efforts of independent investigation, reliable sources and noted leakers.

Conclusions

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”

The Bloomberg Switch 2 Rumor is one of many that adds fuel to our anticipation, but there is no way to know what is real when it comes to the highly anticipated Nintendo device.

As of January 26th, 2024, there are no official details about the Nintendo Switch successor, except that it will be made by a Kyoto-based video game company, Nintendo.

So as frustrating as it is to wait, I encourage video game enthusiasts to enjoy the technology and games they have now.

And we will all be pleasantly surprised together by the inevitable announcement of the Switch 2 whenever Nintendo decides it is the right time to make that announcement.
