Is The Super Nintendo Switch Nintendo’s Newest Console Creation?

A bigger Switch, a more powerful Switch without handheld compatibility, and a hybrid console like no other. The Super Nintendo Switch has passed through many different guises and forms thus far, though the general consensus is that the name is here to stay.
Formally dubbed the Nintendo Switch Pro, the Switch offering that ‘did away’ with the switching, the Super Nintendo Switch appears to be doing the round on the internet at the moment.
Of course, Nintendo hasn’t commented on the new leak or said anything to contradict it. Heck, they could have been the ones that leaked it in the first place. Nothing keeps people hooked like a juicy morsel of info!
Where Did The Super Nintendo Switch Name Come From?
Back in 2020, an insider named Tyler McVicker spoke about the new Switch model in a tweet, callling it the ‘Super Switch’. A journalist from Brazil recently took to Twitter to call the new consoles the Super Switch as well.
Now, these two unconnected people may have just been messing with our heads, but perhaps they’re onto something. As I said above, the ‘Super’ adjective has always been a firm favourite over at Nintendo. Every Mario game starts with it, for crying out loud. I’m surprised Nintendo don’t own the rights to the word!
Tyler Vicker went on to say that BOTW2 would be a Super Nintendo Switch launch title. Could this mean that the Zelda Ocarina of Time Switch release might also appear on the new console?
Could we be about to meet ‘Super Link’?
What Features Will The New Switch Have?

We recently commented on the fact that the Super Nintendo Switch appeared to be a non-handheld console. This leaked sketch of a new Joycon remote with no siderail practically proved as much.
Though general chatter seems to say different.
With a 4K switch heralded for a 2021 release, fact-finders claim that the Switch will still be able to ‘switch’. It’s Nintendo’s main selling point, after all.
Still, the Nintendo Switch Lite kind of takes care of the handheld market, and with the Nintendo Switch selling so well still, would Nintendo risk harming those sales. The 1080p HD console is still winning in a next-gen 4K world – would they end that reign so soon?
Nintendo weren’t afraid to upgrade the DS back in the day. They weren’t even afraid when they discontinued it recently. When it comes to dropping new hardware, these guys are fearless.
Though maybe they should have had a little more fear when it came to the Wii-U…
What Specs Will The Super Nintendo Switch Have?
You can bet Mazza’s hat on 4K resolution and a steady stream of games from both first and third party developers. Bloomberg said as much in a recent report, and now the Metroid Prime 4 release date has leaked, we could only be a matter of months away from getting it!
Bigger memory, more game cart slots like the abandoned idea for the DS XL range, and additional controller charging ports are a must.
Who knows, we may even get a dual-screen handheld controller if this Nintendo Switch DS takes off!
When Will The New Nintendo Switch Come Out?
A recent leak stated that players may see BOTW2 release as early as Q2 2021. The original Switch console launched in March 2017; could we see a March release again?
As of now, Nintendo remains closed lipped about the entire thing. They won’t tell us till they are good and ready, which is usually about two days before release date. Be sure to keep an eye (or both) on the Retro Dodo socials for more information as and when we get it!
